How to get your Perfect Foundation Shade Match | TheMakeupDiaries

Hey guys! So we know that finding your perfect shade of foundation is extremely difficult (been there, done that) especially if you're new to makeup or if you're buying a drugstore foundation (no darn testers). Anyways, we want to help you as best as we can because we know how it feels to be stuck in that situation and we want to help you out as best as we can! So let's get started :)

Okay so first..
You should have a general idea by now if you're in the light, medium or dark section.

Now the more confusing part... UNDERTONES!
This is undeniably the most tricky part about truly finding you're perfect foundation/concealer shade..

Just like Michelle Phan says:

  • Skin tones are often confused for undertones, but they are not the same thing
.
  • An undertone is the color that lies beneath the skin. It is almost like a shadow below your skin color. While your skin tone can change, the undertone never does.
  • You can have a cool, warm, or neutral undertone.
For a more in depth answer to the whole shade range definitely check out her take on it (linked down below).

Anyways, you can have a yellow, olive, pink undertone etc.

A good way to determine if you're warm, cool or neutral is to look at the veins on your wrists. Do they look more green? If so, you are probably warm. Do they look more blue? Then chances are, you're probably cool toned. If you aren't sure or it just looks like both, you are probably neutral.

  • "One way to find your undertone is to think about which colors look best on you – if you tend to look better in cool colors, like blue and white, it’s probably because of your cool undertone. If you gravitate toward oranges or pinks, chances are you have a warm undertone.
" -Michelle Phan
  • See her take on "What's My Undertone?" Here.
  • Try this quiz to see your undertone. Here.
Another way to see if you're cool or warm toned is if you think that gold jewelry suits you more and you are more attracted to it, you are probably warm undertoned. If silver jewelry appeals to you and looks good on you, then you are most likely cool undertoned.

As a beginner, I recommend as you're most likely going to buy a drugstore foundation, go to somewhere like L'oreal where they are seperated into warm, cool and neutral already and go from there. NEVER SWATCH ON YOUR HAND because the colour of your face is different from the shade on your hand. Test the shade out on your jawline, and walk around a bit, to see if it oxidises (If you don't know what that means, it means that if you put on the foundation shade and you wait a bit, if the foundation oxidises, it changes shades. Some foundations can do that.)
Try your best not to eye it from the bottle because sometimes bottles aren't so accurate.

If you guys have any questions or need some help, send us a tweet or ask us on our tumblr asks box and we'd love to help you out!!

Hope this helps you out xoxo

Wet N Wild Comfort Zone Palette First Impression/Swatches |TheMakeupDiaries

Hey guys!!
So today I'm going to be doing a review/first impression and show you some swatches of this Wet n wild palette everyone raves about. It's called Comfort Zone and it has very neutral brown and olive shades. This 8 shadow palette retails for $2.79 (wow) so I decided why not pick it up and try it out. Like what more can you lose?! However, this palette is seriously amazing! I knew it would be fantastic because so many youtubers rave about Wet N Wild and the quality/pigmentation of their eyeshadows. I decided to get the 8 eyeshadow palette to really test out the quality of their eyeshadows and it did not disappoint! This palette, called Comfort Zone, is the olive/brown/bronze hued eyeshadows and is the most neutral out of the 3 eight panned eyeshadows. Unlike UD who has names for each individual eyeshadow, these don't have names. Ingraved are either browbone, eyelid, crease or definer but you can use them anywhere you want, as the ingravement is just a suggestion.

Rundown of the shades (from left to right)
Browbone #1: A shimmery off white but not quite beige. White/Beige with slightly yellow undertones. Shimmer.
Browbone #2: Shimmery silver/taupe. Similar to UD Sidecar.
Eyelid #1: Pretty bronze/rose gold. Beautiful eye lid colour!
Eyelid #2: STUNNING green with lime undertones. So pretty! Not quite at an emerald, but very wearable!
Crease #1: BEAUTIFUL bronze crease shade. Lighter than UD's buck.
Crease #2: Almost black, mossy dark green.
Definer #1: Brown with gold specks, similar to UD Darkhorse.
Definer #2: A very interesting shade. Blue with gold, violet, pink undertones.

Today, I used Eyelid #1 and Crease #1 and it was so beautiful! The shadows are very comparable to higher end shadows. The pigmentation is there, and the shadows are so buttery and so soft. This is a very wearable palette as there are such neutral shades but also greens, blues and deep browns to experiment with! And with it being $2.79 what more do you have to lose?! (Maybe a cookie, but HEY! This palette is amazing and worth every single penny.) The only con I have to say about this palette is that I wish there were at least 2 matte shades to use transitions shades like UD Naked and Buck, as all of the shadows are shimmery. I wish the two browbone colours were a matte soft white and a matte light brown- this would be the perfect palette. I wouldn't travel with this palette alone because of the fact that it doesn't have any matte shades for transitioning, however this palette is superb, and Wet N Wild did an amazing job on making such beautiful, quality eyeshadows for next to nothing!

QUICK FACTS:
  • I got this for $2.79 (At Superstore for all you Canadian girlies!)
  • There are 8 eyeshadows in this palette called Comfort Zone.
  • This is one of the three 8 pan eyeshadows Wet N Wild has
  • Pigmentation is amazing, shadows are buttery soft
  • Packaging isn't the greatest. But then again, for it being $2.79, how much of the money went to the packaging?!

Introducing My New Baby... the Longchamps Original Handbag! | TheMakeupDiaries

Hi everyone! I know this post is totally not beauty related but it fits into the fashion category! I am pleased to tell you I have gotten my hands on the Longchamps Original Handbag! I am so excited to use it and to see how it looks with some outfits! It's the perfect addition to my collection. My style includes a lot of black so, I decided to choose the black shade of this particular bag. It will match everything plus it's super versatile and won't get as dirty! This bag is super stylish and is a very popular pick. Tons of people have these bags and you can pack a number of things in it. I was in search of an amazing more casual handbag and am so happy this is the one I ended up with.
My thoughts:
- Amazing quality
- Super stylish
- Worth the money
- Casual
- Lots of space
- Trendy
- Versatile
Although this bag does cost a hefty price  you can use it in many ways. I think purchasing this bag saves the effort of buying many other bags you don't necessarily need as much. This bag costed me $129.00 but, the price varies depending on where you get it from. So far, I'm really loving it and am looking forward to using it more often in the future. I hope to feature it in upcoming fashion blogposts! xx alyssa

L'oreal Tru Match First Impression | TheMakeupDiaries

Hey guys!! So I just recently purchased the L'oreal Tru match after hearing so many great things about it. I own the Tru Match Lumi by L'oreal and I absolutely love that foundation, but because my skin has been getting oiler because it's starting to warm up where I live, and because I've been wanting to try something new, I decided to pick this one up. I got it in the shade W3, or nude beige (in the Tru Match lumi I'm a W4) because my skin has just been getting unreasonably lighter the past few months. And it'll be nice to have a lighter foundation in my arsenal. So without further ado let's get started!

Claims:
Finish: natural
SPF: 17 (select shades)
Coverage: Light to medium
Skin Type: For all skin types. Oil-free.

Available in 33 skin-true shades.

How I looked like after applying it (10 minutes after. I rushed in the car to get a pic!)

•••
First impression:
First applied (8:45 a.m)- I applied a beauty blender to first apply this foundation. IT BLENDS SO WELL! The finish is Demi-matte, and not as luminous as the True Match lumi. Usually I'm really bad at colour matching and I get a shade darker than I am (fail) but now it's the right shade (w3). I was so surprised that it wasn't as runny as the Lumi, but not super matte (which I don't like!) anyways, so far so good, I set it with my new Maybelline Fit me! Powder. I'm excited to see how this holds up, and I'll update you in a few hours.

9:30: still looks great!

12:30: my skin looks quite dull (I'm getting sick so maybe that's why..) reapplied powder onto t-zone. My blemishes aren't peeking through yet.

4:40: blemishes are starting to peek through (the big red ones) however my foundation still looks good. Unlike the lumi one, it looks like it's sitting nicely on top of the skin whereas my lumi one doesn't have such a good lasting power. My blush is gone except it was a sheer tone blush from mac so it's just a light wash of colour. So far so good, I'll update you later.

9:30: It's now the end of the day, and I've been wearing this foundation for more than 12 hours. And guys, this is hands down my most long wearing foundation. It stays in my skin while giving me a Demi matte finish. My acne scarring and hyper pigmentation are barely showing through (which is a first, especially after using it for more than 12 hours). This is my new go to foundation! Love love love! ❤️

Sephora Moonshadow Baked Eyeshadow Palette: In the Tropics/ Review &Swatches | TheMakeupDiaries

Hey guys! So today I'm gonna review this palette by Sephora called In The Tropics. There are 10 baked eyeshadows in the palette. The palette is definitely not a neutrals palette as it varies from a green, to a copper, to purples to shimmery golds and silvers. This palette retails for $32.00 (Found here.)
My opinion on the palette:
You definitely need to wet the shadows before you apply them as they're more pigmented if they are foiled. So if you are going to use them, wet your eye shadow brush first and use a stiff eyeshadow brush. To be quite honest, this palette isn't worth the $32 price tag, but if you happen to get this as a gift (like I did) or get sent it, it's a fun palette to experiment with. I especially like the shades Peru (deep emerald green with gold flecks), Belize (copper), Grenada (royal purple), Bermuda (light soft purple) and Martinique (golden yellow). There are no matte shades, so there isn't any transition colours. I wouldn't recommend this palette to someone looking for an everyday palette with versatile shades. I would however, recommend this to someone who wanted more colour in their collection and is willing to spend the $32 on it.

Sephora's Claims:
What it is:
A must-have palette of tropical island inspired baked eye shadows.

What it does:
If you’re looking for an island escape, this baked eye shadow palette is your gateway. Create a variety of chic looks with this collection of purple, bronze, gold, and neutral hues that can be used wet or dry. When applied dry, the shadows help produce soft, natural eyes. When applied with a slightly wet brush tip, the shadows are transformed into a liquid-like formula. Featuring great blendability and long-wear, you can mix the shades for a casual, modern daytime look or a sophisticated, glamorous nighttime look.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Phthalates

This set contains:
- 10 x 0.018 oz Eyeshadow in Peru (pearly olive green), Belize (shimmery dark pink), Barbados (soft, pink sand), Seychelles (warm pearly golden pink), St. Vincent (shimmery white), Grenada (deep pearly purple), Bermuda (sparkly light orchid purple), Fiji (silver shimmery lilac), Martinique (golden yellow sparkle), St. Lucia (shimmery cream)

Stila Lip Glaze's♡ | TheMakeupDiaries

Recently, I haven't been loving lipsticks as much.. I've been really drawn to lip glosses. I've re-discovered my Stila Lip Glaze's! I used to use them non stop everyday and I think they are seriously hands down the best lip glosses I've ever tried. I know I have mentioned these before but after I started using them again I felt it was necessary to do a blog post about them! I feel they are often overlooked, I have NEVER watched a Youtube video that has featured them and I am so curious as to why that is because they are so AMAZING. Words cannot describe how great the formula and quality of these glosses are and they come in so many stunning shades. Of course these aren't the cheapest lip glosses but they are worth the money. They range from $17-$29 but often times you can find them at Sephora, Ulta and Urban Outfitters in packs of three for $12! How crazy is that?! If you ask me that's a deal you can't refuse! Stila's Lip Glaze's will turn heads wherever you go. The formula is super glossy and not sticky! These lip glosses are very buildable, are best sellers and are much needed in every girl's makeup bag. I suggest every single one of you should try these out and I swear you'll love them. The shades I have from top to bottom are.. Joy, Jack Frost, Passionfruit, Dazzleberry and Amaretto and I believe these shades are limited edition so get your hands on them if you can! If not, the permanent shades in the line are beautiful as well♡ So I hope you get a chance to look at these in store or buy a few... be sure to tell me about it if you do! hope everyone has a great day!! xx alyssa

MAC SpringSheen Review/Swatch

Hey guys! So today I wanted to do a review on this Mac blush in Springsheen. I got it for my birthday a couple weeks ago from Alyssa (Thank you sooo much❤️) and ever since, I've been trying it out. When I first saw Springsheen I fell in loooove with it. This is actually my first MAC blush, and it's in their sheer tone shimmer blush category. It retails for about $25 CAD, however it is cheaper than a highend blush like Nars.

•••
Review: So after trying this blush out for about 3 weeks, I can wholeheartedly tell you guys that this blush is amazing. It's perfect. I used to not like wearing blush but after Springsheen, I'd rather wear blush than bronzer (wow did I just say that?) It's like a burned peach with a golden glow.. But what's interesting and why I think I like it so much is because it's in between two of my FAVOURITE blushes- Nars orgasm and Milani's luminoso. It's not as shimmery as Nars, yet it's more bronzey than the milani one. It's definitely at a happy medium between the two and that's why I love it so much!! It's pigmented and blends on so nicely, and it makes me want to pick up even more Mac blushes!!

What's in My Makeup Bag! | TheMakeupDiaries

Lately I've been attending many parties and sleepovers so I've been having to pack my makeup and bringing it with me wherever I go! The way I do my makeup changes very frequently but I always make sure to bring the necessities. I tend to pack a bunch of things I don't even need but after some time I've learned to pack less.. only my essentials make it into the bag now! The makeup bag I reach towards the most is this super adorable pastel pink bag with gold polka dots. This bag is hands down my favourite and it fits all of the things I need! It's also very cute and I always get compliments on it. A girl ALWAYS needs to have a stylish makeup bag to keep her precious makeup in! When I already have makeup on I only pack things I would need to touch up my makeup but, if I am bare faced and need to apply a full face of makeup I gravitate towards bringing more face products than eye products. I also try to bring multi-purpose products so I can conserve space and use 1 product that will act as more than one thing! For instance, a cheek stain that also works as a lip stain!

Products:

  • Clean and Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets
  • Covergirl BB cream
  • Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder
  • NARS Orgasm/Laguna Blush and Bronzer Duo
  • Elf Eyebrow Kit
  • NYC Eyeliner
  • Shu Umera Eyelash Curler
  • Loreal Telescopic Carbon Black Mascara
  • Maybelline Babylips in Cherry Me
  • Spoole
  • Travel sized powder brush
  •  Angled eyeliner brush

Some of the things i like to keep in my makeup bag...

Christian Dior Creme De Rose: Is it worth the HYPE?

I'm at a loss of words.. The Christian Dior créme de rose, the most coveted and pricey lip balm. I received this on my birthday from Alyssa (thank you heaps❤️) and I was so excited to use it. Beauty youtubers rave about this product  as such a luxurious and princess product.
I can see why.
This lip balm retails for $30 CAD. The packaging is beautiful, and simple with the initials of Christian Dior on the front in a sleek white container. This claims to be a smoothing, plumping lip balm, something I can claim is true. The product inside is a soft, light pink lip balm that smells like dozens of roses. It smells absolutely divine. The product itself is creamy, hugs the lips, and moisturizes really well. The only downside I have for this product is other than the price, the packaging because I don't like reaching my finger in to grab product all the time out of sanitary reasons, however now, I use a lip brush to grab the product and apply it to my lips.
•••
Is it worth the hype?
In my opinion, if you are a lip balm girl, like yours truly, I would say yes. I am 98% always wearing lip balm because I just find it much easier. Instead of spending 40$ on a lipstick I'll never use, I feel like spending 30$ on something you use everyday justifies itself. However, if you're not an avid lip balm user, I don't think this is worth the hype. Sure it is luxurious, but you can find other lip balms like the rosebud salve one for cheaper that can give you similar results.
All in all, this is a beautiful and very luxurious product, and if you're willing to spend the $30 on it, you will not regret it because the formula of the product is so gorgeous.

Everyday Makeup Tutorial for School | TheMakeupDiaries

Hi guys! So my makeup routine tends to change (A lot actually) because I'm always adjusting my makeup looks according to how I feel, how I want my makeup to look, and cycling products around. I have fallen in love with this makeup look because it's just so natural, however still looks well put together. Some of my favourite makeup products and all my HG products are included because I use them every day. I feel like I haven't showed you guys my everyday makeup routine (have I ever?) so I thought I would finally get this up for you guys.
So I choose this makeup routine for school because I just want to look put together not necessarily all dolled up. All the products I use will be linked down below in case you were wondering where you could buy them!
So let's get started :) xx

Products I used:
• To prime my face I use Maybelline's Baby Skin. It helps blur out my pores and to help my makeup stay on a little longer.
•To conceal any blemishes, hyper pigmentation and spots I conceal with Benefit boi-ing concealer in 02.
•To counteract any dark circles I use Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Concealer in medium. I apply this as a backwards triangle and use the warmth of my ring finger to blend it in.
•To set all my face makeup I use a light powder like the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder.
•To add some colour and flush to my face, I use the Mac blush in Springsheen. It's like a bronzey-peach shade, perfect for that overall glow.
•My favourite part of my makeup routine recently has been highlighter. I feel like it gives my face such a beautiful glow without looking too fake! I use Benefit's Sun Beam highlighter.
•To fill in my eyebrows I use the Anastasia Brow Wiz in ebony. I have a in depth brow routine in one of the earlier posts if you want to check that out.
•To fill in any sparse areas, I use my favourite makeup product at the moment the Benefit Gimmebrow. It makes my brows look so full and dark!
•I apply two coats of my favourite mascara, the L'oreal voluminous carbon black mascara in waterproof.
•To open up my eyes even more I use Maybelline's the rocket mascara on my lower lashes.
• On my waterline, to make me look more awake, I use the Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeliner in nude.
• To finish off the look, I use the Christian Dior créme de rose lip balm to nourish and hydrate my lips with giving a hint of baby pink colour.

Easter Outfit Ideas! | TheMakeupDiaries

So as you all know Easter is tomorrow! (wow time flies!!) Easter is one of my all time favourite holidays. I love the colourful eggs, chocolates (except when I catch myself stuffing my face with them.. haha), egg hunts, games, desserts AND the Easter bunny.. so adorable. I'm assuming a bunch of you have parties coming up and if you're anything like me, you probably have no idea what you're going to wear! I always have a difficult time choosing what to wear on a daily basis but especially when it's an important event or holiday. I'm always torn  between different outfits and styles. This results in me always choosing outfits at the last minute! I decided to come up with 4 outfit ideas I think would be perfect for Easter parties or any day! These 4 outfits are all really cute and have different aspects to them which suit many different personalities. I hope this helps and inspires you to find your perfect outfit for Easter♡. Comment below saying which outfit I should wear to my Easter party. I would love to read what you think about the outfits. Now enough of this rambling, let's get started!! xx alyssa

Outfit #1
This outfit is very comfy and laid back while still being dressy and feminine. I paired this vibrant orange/red romper with an oversized knit cream cardigan. I felt this cardigan added texture to the romper and complimented it's bold colour. I am a huge fan of this outfit and find it very eye-catching. For shoes I went with simple sandals that matched the outfit perfectly and created a more casual look while still keeping it girly.
Outfit #2
This outfit is the fanciest of them all. It's a stunning maxi dress! This dress is very versatile, you can dress it up or down depending on the occasion. When I first saw this dress at Forever 21, I couldn't take my eyes off it.. it was so beautiful. I love the grey and coral combination. This dress is super comfortable and very flattering on. I wanted to keep it simple considering the dress is already so pretty and is also very feminine. I paired this outfit with the same sandals from the previous outfit which I absolutely love! If you were wondering, I got them from Nine West!
Outfit #3
Since the two previous outfits were very cute and girly I decided to do something different with this one. My goal was to put together something edgy but still cute and delicate at the same time. I paired a plain white halter top (which is very in style right now) with these gorgeous floral shorts with white detailing at the bottom. To create more depth and dimension, I threw on my black leather jacket! It completed the outfit and brought everything together. It balanced the floral shorts and white halter top perfectly and I ended up really liking how it turned out! Of course this outfit had to be paired with my white converse.. (a staple in every girl's shoe collection)
Outfit #4
By far, this outfit is the most causal and comfy!! This outfit is appropriate for any outing and might just be my favourite out of them all. If you're having a laid back simple party this is the right outfit for you!! I adore this outfit and am loving how it looks! I paired this cream colored flowy tank top that has cut outs on the bottom with black leggings and brown booties!! The flowy top creates movement in the outfit and looks amazing with anything!

Alyssa's Eyebrow Routine | TheMakeupDiaries

Hii everyone! First off Roshelle and I are sorry we haven't been posting as much. We have been extremely busy with school and other activities but, we have some amazing blog post ideas coming you way! Just bear with us.. haha. Today, I decided to do my eyebrow routine!! I was supposed to post this a few weeks ago but never found the time! Filling in my eyebrows is something I always need to do, I feel so naked with out them. They frame my face and bring out some of my features. Filling in my eyebrows also helps bring my look together! One product that I've been using for a really long time would be the Anastasia Beauty Express for Brows and Eyes Kit. It has everything you need to fill in your eyebrows perfectly! It comes with wax, 2 eyebrow powders and 2 highlights! It also includes an angled brush and some stencils... it's seriously the perfect kit! I love it so much and I don't know what I'd do without it! But, before I get into the tutorial here is some background information about my eyebrows. I started getting them threaded at the beginning of grade 8. Threading is amazing! It's a little scary at first but, you get used to it. I have to admit it hurts but it's over before you know it and the results are wonderful. Your eyebrows look so clean and defined! I recommend trying threading out to see of it's for you and trust me there's no going back once you try it! Also, try not to get them done too often otherwise your eyebrows might get too thin (unless you prefer them that way). Using tweezers and plucking them once they grow is good. Just maintain them and wait a few weeks before you get them done again. I personally get mine done every month. Now let's get into the tutorial step by step!

  • Start by plucking any stray hairs and combing through your brows with a spooly. Apply a wax to tame your brows if necessary (I just skip this step, it's all personal preference) This step will prep your brows and get them ready for the fun part.. filling them in!
  • Use an angled brush and apply the eyebrow powder onto your eyebrows using a light hand. Fill them in following your natural brow shape and use small strokes.
  • Once you finish filling them in, apply a gel to keep them in place. This step is optional and I often skip it.
  • To finish and make your brows look more defined, apply a highlight onto your brow bone. I prefer blue toned pearly shades similar to Urban Decay's Virgin eyeshadow.
Overview of the products I use when I fill in my brows
Step 1: tweezers and spooly

Before: eyebrows not filled in
After: eyebrows filled in

Roshelle's Eyebrow Routine ❤️ | TheMakeupDiaries

Hi guys! So first of all we're so sorry for the lack of posts lately. It's just been hectic with school and other commitments, but we're trying to get up a post at least once a week for you. And a side note, thank you guys so much for the 6000+ views on the blog! We seriously cannot even comprehend how cool that is. Anyways, today I'm gonna show you my individual eyebrow routine. Of course everyone's is different but eyebrows are such a crucial part of the makeup look as it frames your face and makes you look well put together. I cannot leave my house without filling in my eyebrows, because I feel so bare without it! What I recommend is getting your brows waxed, threaded or plucked frequently so they look polished and well put together. I also encourage you guys to find products that you really like because everyone's eyebrows are different! Whether it's powder (which I used to love!), pencil, gel etc. Without further ado, let's get started!

•••

I use the spooly from my Anastasia brow wiz in ebony to comb through my brows. Then I lightly start filling them in with the pencil part of the brow wiz, using light feathery strokes. I start at the inner part of my brow, filling it in naturally, then creating an arch at the end of my brow and extending my eyebrows a little. After, I go back in with the spooly and comb through my brows, to reduce any harsh lines. I then go in with my Benefit gimme brow in medium/deep and just set my brows. This stuff is seriously amazing. It fills in the sparse areas of my brows that I might've missed while using the brow wiz. It makes my eyebrows appear thicker and darker. Then, occasionally, I take my Elf concealer brush and use my Benefit boi-ing concealer in 02 to sharpen my brows and clean them up. I then comb through them once more then I'm all done :) xo
