First Impression/Review: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer & Maybelline Fit me! Comparison | TheMakeupDiaries

I purchased this concealer about 3 weeks ago as you saw in our Mini Sephora & MAC Haul (if you haven't seen it already you can see it here.)
Anyways, I picked it up in Biscuit at the time (which the lady at Sephora matched me too) but when I got home I quickly discovered that it was too dark for my skin tone. I've been extremely busy with basketball, volleyball, family, school and friends (pretty much everything in the mix of my everyday life) and there was literally no time AT ALL to exchange it. A few days ago, Alyssa and I went to Sephora together and exchanged it. I got a shade lighter which is in Medium 2: Ginger. It matched me so much better! So I am so excited to finally test this product out for you guys.

Fast facts:
  • Released in March of last year.
  • Retails for $30 CAD.
  • 10 shades in the collection.
My thoughts:
This concealer is a new favourite. Usually when I conceal blemishes/pimples/dark spots the concealer NEVER stays on my skin. But after wearing this for 8 hours or so.. I can honestly say that although it was fading a little, It's the only concealer that I've ever had that has stayed somewhat put. And what's amazing is that it can be used for blemishes/spots BUT because it's super creamy, you can put it under your eyes and it does NOT crease. However, you have to blend it in really well. I use the warmth of my ring finger to blend it in. This concealer is marvellous. The price is super steep.. but this is such a high end concealer that you really have to save up for it.
Let me say that this is NOT, I repeat, NOT a more expensive version of the Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer. IT IS NOT. The only thing that is similar is the packaging, however the Maybelline one is plastic and the Nars one is glass and it snaps shut. I had to throw my Maybelline one out because whenever I closed it, product would get stuck on the sides and it would build up gunk (which was horrific.) but because the NARS one snaps shut, that isn't an issue. The Maybelline one also has a very limited shade selection and the Nars one has a greater shade range. The Maybelline one is so light and thin that it doesn't stay on the face as well as the Nars one does. The Nars one is thick and creamy enough that it covers dark spots/blemishes really well but doesn't feel thick at all or crease.

Have you tried this concealer? What are your thoughts? x

Love, r&a. x

First Impression: L'oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer | TheMakeupDiaries

Hey guys! So I recently went to my local drugstore and picked up the L'oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer in W4-5. I'm going to be doing a first impression on it throughout the day so let's just hop in!

On Sunday January 19th...

  • @11:30 a.m: First applied concealer. Applied lightly under eyes and blended in with warmth of ring finger. Also applied on blemishes. I noticed it made a dry ring around any pimples that were dried up but covered up everything well. Very blendable consistency. So far so good, set with Rimmel Stay Matte Powder (Like I do with all concealers.)
5 hours later...
  • @4:30 p.m: Came back from being outside the entire day. Was volunteering at an open house at my school. Pimples still concealed on cheeks however redness on nose is starting to show through. Looks good so far.
30 minutes later...
  • @5:00 p.m: concealer applied on redness on my nose has completely disappeared and also starting to fade on my cheeks. Looks faded upclose but far away still decent. Reapplied.
4 hours later...

*final update
  • @9:00 p.m: Concealer stayed on great. Even though I had to reapply at 5:00, it was extremely easy too and because it was super buildable, I could apply it to the faded parts of the blemish with concealer already on it.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
This concealer is great! It's amazing at smoothing out your under eye area (not concealing dark undereyes), and also great for blemishes. It's not so good for blemishes that have just been dried out because it can create a dry ring around it. It hides redness but after awhile, the redness starts to peep through and you have to reapply. I think this is a great touch-up concealer as it is compact and easy to just slap onto your blemishes. You really don't need to worry about blending it in super good because the product almost melts into your skin with the touch and warmth of your finger. All in all, this is a great product and I recommend this to anyone who just needs a touch-up concealer to carry around in their bags and purses.

Top Ten Must Have Nail Polishes I TheMakeupDiaries

Hey guys! I've noticed that Roshelle and I have yet to do a blogpost involving nail polish. Nail polish is a big part of beauty and in my opinion, it completes a whole look. Nail polish is the first beauty related item I got interested in. I went through a nail polish phase. I was crazy!! I'd go searching for nail polishes to buy every week. I was really fond of OPI nail polishes. I still like them now but, I have more than enough nail polishes so I don't buy them as much. Depending on how obsessed you are with nail polishes, you may only want to buy high end ones like Chanel or Butter London nail polishes. To be honest, some nail polishes are quite expensive. Where I live, they can be $3.00, $30 or even more. I'm sure many of you are nail polish lovers like myself and I thought it would be good to share with you my top ten must have nail polishes.Feel free to share your thoughts with us or tell us your favourite nail polishes in the comment section below. Also comment below if you would like to know of dupes for these polishes! I was really excited to create this post soo I hope you like it:)

Nail Polishes:
  • OPI Hawaiian Orchid: A light, soft, sheer pink with a little bit of duo chrome. This is my go to nail polish and it has a warm undertone. Hawaiian Orchid is the type of shade that will look perfect on everyone.
  • OPI You're Such a Budapest: A beautiful, creamy pastel lilac/periwinkle. This polish is absolutely stunning. I really enjoy this colour during the spring.
  • Essie In The Cab-ana: My all time favourite Essie nail polish. This is a gorgeous bright turquoise sky blue. I absolutely love this colour, it's so beautiful.
  • Butter London Trout Pout: A pretty coral shade. Coral really compliments many skin tones and I really like this colour during the summer months.
  • Deborah Lippman Across the Universe: A sheer blue base with green and blue hexagonal glitter and turquoise glitter. It's such an attractive polish I can stare at it for days haha
  • MAC Pistachio Crème: An extremely pretty pastel baby/sky blue.
  • Chanel Accessoire: A very opaque and creamy deep red toned brown a must have for fall and winter.
  • Chanel Blue Satin: A dark, glossy navy blue with settle shimmer.
  • Ciate Hoopla: A pastel creamy peach, this is a really popular polish.
  • Nails Inc New Kensington Gore: A natural rich nude, perfect for all year round.
  • China Glaze For Audrey: One of my favourites! This is a very popular shade and very many people like it. I would describe this like everyone else.. it's a tiffany box blue!

Makeup and Outfit for the JT concert |TheMakeupDiaries

Hii guys! Yesterday on January 16 I (Alyssa) went to the Justin Timberlake 20/20 Experience Tour. Justin is hands down my favourite artist and his concert was extraordinary. The stage looked fantastic and according to Justin, Vancouver takes the cake! The audience sang and danced just as hard as he did. It was an amazing concert and left me speechless and wanting more. I feel like words can't describe just how good he was. When he comes back, I'll definitely watch him again.  Anyways,  today I am going to be sharing with you the outfit I  wore to the concert and well as what makeup I used. I hope you all enjoy!!  I'll also include photos from the concert down below.

The Makeup I Used:
• Covergirl Whipped Creme Foundation in Shade 355 all over my face doubling it up as concealer.
• Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 011 Creamy Natural to set the foundation and keep my face matte throughout the night.
• MAC Mineralized Blush in Warm Soul. I used this to make my cheeks look flushed and glowy while still keeping it natural.
• MAC Frost Eyeshadow in Satin Taupe. I applied this shadow to my lid and blended it into my crease using a "windshield wiper motion" The shadow I used is quite dark so it's perfect for a darker smoky eye look.
• Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Mascara. After curling my eyelashes with the Shu Umera eyelash curler, I applied this mascara. It is my new favorite, it generously coats the lashes without being clumpy and does what it claims.. stays all day! or in this case night!
• Anastasia Beauty Express For Brows and Eyes in the shade Brunette. I used this kit to fill in my eyebrows and applied the highlight shade to my brow-bone for an extra "oomph"
• MAC cremesheen lipstick in Sunny Seoul. This lip colour was shiny, opaque yet very natural. This lip complimented the rest of my makeup very nicely.

My Outfit:
• Topshop Petite Lilac Flowy Tank Top
• Topshop Moto Joni Jeans in Black
• Forever 21 Navy Blue Knit Cardigan
• Black Steve Madden Troopa Boots
• Silver Leaf Necklace
• Forever 21 Stud Earrings
•Cobalt Blue Wallet with Gold

MAC Rebel Lipstick Review/Swatch | TheMakeupDiaries

Hi everyone! Today I'm doing a review on MAC's rebel! Rebel is a deep, fucsia berry colour which retails for $18.00 CAD (plus tax so around $20.16). It is apart of the Satin family (finish), so they are opaque and have long lasting coverage. Rebel is a very popular lipstick, as it was on MAC's top 10 products sold in 2013. I love this colour, personally, I don't like very bold lip colours and usually stick to something I am comfortable with, Rebel is an excellent colour/addition to my collection so when I want something bold, I can use it. I think rebel looks amazing during the Winter/fall months from around September-February and is a lot of people's favourites when it comes to a bold fall/winter lip. It isn't insanely drying but it isn't the most moisturizing lipstick. Once you put it on, it gets lighter.. so obviously it isn't as dark as you see it. I found that when I wore it, it got more lighter as time progressed. I wore it on New Years Eve and had a feast at my place (which means a lot of eating and drinking!) and rebel stayed on perfect for me. I got a lot of compliments from my family and my aunts saying I looked really different in a good way! When you apply rebel, it stains your lips so even after eating/drinking a lot, I still had the colour stained onto my lips, and it was an even stain (not blotchy). The place where I saw the colour fade the most was around the corners of my lips (which happens about 95% I wear lipstick! lol). So all in all, Rebel is great to have in your collection. It's a beautiful deep berry colour which translates lighter on. I feel like you really have to go to your nearest MAC counter and try it on as it looks different on many different skin tones. It is a beautiful lipstick for the fall/winter and when you want a bold lip! x

Have you tried Rebel? What are your thoughts?

Definitely looks lighter on then in the packaging/ Swatch of Rebel/ Rebel on my lips!

Sick Day Essentials | TheMakeupDiaries

Hey guys! So today I stayed home from school today (feeling super sick) :( Anyways, during a sick day I wouldn't usually wear makeup however, I had to go somewhere and I was not going out today with a face makeupless especially cause I was feeling sick and was looking pale. So here's my sick day essentials!
  • Vicks' Vapo Rub! A little rub on your tummy will make it feel a little better even though I'm not a big fan of the smell.
  • A box of tissues: A box of tissues is always a good idea when your sick.
  • A candle: I like to take naps when I'm feeling sick and falling asleep to the aroma of a candle is so soothing! Today, I burned my favourite candle, Marshmallow Fireside from B&BW.
  • A bunch of pillows and blankets: to keep you warm and to help you fall asleep.
  • Fuzzy socks! They keep your toes warm :)
Now whenever I'm sick I usually don't like wearing makeup just because I'm only staying home but here are some makeup essentials for when your going out when you are sick!
  • Moisturizer: You NEED to moisturize! Your skin probably feels super dead and lifeless. When your sick your skin feels very dry and moisturizing is super important!!! I use Simple's light moisturizer.
  • Moisturize your lips: Moisturizing your face is very important but your lips are too. They can feel flaky and dry if not taken care of. I use just plain old vasaline.
  • Skip the foundation! If necessary, just use concealer. Hide those under eye bags and conceal anything else you want too. Lean more to more liquidy concealers that are light so its moisturizing!
  • Use tints! I like Cha Cha tint from Benefit because it gives me a very natural flush of colour on my cheeks. For some highlighter to add some colour onto my face as well, I like Sun beam from Benefit.
  • Use a nude eyeliner! Nude eyeliner is not as harsh as white so it looks natural while still making you look more awake! It makes your eyes look open.
  • Less is more: use a light hand with makeup and use less. So many days we wear more makeup than we need too, so just enjoy having a bare face today!

NARS Orgasm Blush ($32) vs ELF Candid Coral Blush ($3) DUPE? | TheMakeupDiaries

Hi guys! Today I thought I would do a comparison between NARS' Orgasm and Elf's Candid Coral. When I first started out with makeup, I remember wanting the NARS blush sooo bad as so many Youtuber's had it but I would see it all over tumblr. But then I owned the Elf blush. I searched it up after getting it for reviews and all that and a lot of people mentioned it to be a dupe for NARS' Orgasm. However, as a beginner all my makeup was from the drugstore. And I just got the Nars blush recently and I've been waiting to do this comparison for years! So let's get started!

The prices for these two products are really far apart. NARS' retails for about $32 CAD while Elf retails for $3. That's a huge difference. First of all, the packaging is similar. They are both in black square compacts with the brand's name lettering in white at the front. Right away, I feel like Nars' packaging is just a lot sleeker, and it just feels more expensive. In the elf one there is also a little rectangular cut out to give a preview of the product. Anyways, when you open it up at the top of the packaging, the Nars one includes a gigantic full size mirror while the Elf one has a 3/4 mirror. I feel like the Elf one is just more peachy toned and the Nars one is more pink with gold undertones. They are both pretty, but I like the Nars one better. I feel like I get more product and the blush looks beautiful, natural and flattering on me and every other skin tone. I do really like the Elf one too for days where I just want to look natural and have a teeny touch of colour on my cheeks. But for the price, the Elf one is pretty awesome. Are they dupes for each other? No, I don't think so. The elf one is more peachy with golden shimmer while the Nars one is more pink with gold undertones. I would say though, if the Nars one is not within your budget, Elf's is a great blush that gives you a similar effect but is not a dupe.

Nars on left | Elf on right

Elf on top (more peachy) / Nars on bottom (more pink with golden undertones)

Crazy About Lipstick Tag! I TheMakeupDiaries

Hey guys!! As you know the both of us absolutely adore lip products! They are definitely our favourite makeup related items to buy. Everywhere we go, lip products are the first thing that catches our attention, obviously!! Both of our collections consist of a variety of drugstore and high-end lip products and our collection keeps getting bigger and bigger!  Today, we've decided to do another exciting tag, the Crazy About Lipstick Tag! We thought this would be the perfect tag to do since we hold such an interest for them. We haven't really heard much about this tag but once we found it we knew we just had to do it. We hope you guys enjoy reading this just as much as we did writing it. Let's get started!

1. How many lipsticks are in your collection?

Alyssa: To be honest, I feel like I'm a lip product hoarder, I just get sucked into buying many different lip products very often. Out of my whole collection I have about 15 lipsticks.. ohhmyy that's getting out of hand but, I absolutely love and use them all and I don't think I can stop haha

Roshelle: I own about 10 lipsticks. I usually stick to ones I feel comfortable with like natural looking pinks/ my lips but better ones!

2. How old were you when you started wearing lipstick?

Alyssa: Well, the first lipstick I tried was in the summer of 2012 when I was thirteen. But, I started to actually wear lipstick on a daily basis this year.

Roshelle: First, when I was younger and just starting to get into lipsticks I thought lipsticks was something "bold". But when I realized that there were lipsticks that we're closer to my natural lip colour, I began wearing lipsticks I was comfortable with wearing on an every day basis. I still don't wear lipstick on an everyday basis.

3. What lipsticks can't you leave or live without?

Alyssa: For sure MAC's Plumful. This is my ultimate favourite lipstick! It's the perfect shade for me, very natural yet gives a settle hint of colour.

Roshelle: MAC's Syrup! I cannot get enough of this. It's my lips but better and an everyday colour for me!

4. Show a lipstick you use to stand out!

Alyssa: I find that darker lip colours don't suit me very well so the closest thing to a bold lip colour I have would be the Revlon Colourburst Lipbutter in Lollipop. Lollipop is a magenta shade with a slight bit of shimmer and has a blue undertone.

Roshelle: MAC's rebel.  I love rebel when I want my lips to stand out and be the center of attention!

5. What was the last lipstick you bought?

Alyssa: The last lipstick I bought is MAC's Cremesheen Lipstick in Sunny Seoul. A pretty coral pink shade!

Roshelle: MAC's rebel! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and have since fallen in love.

6. What lipstick do you regret buying?

Alyssa: I regret buying the Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in Nude Delight. At the time, I was just getting into makeup and didn't know much. This colour did not work with my skin tone and totally washed me out. It was very drying and later on, I got an allergic reaction because of this lipstick which really sucked:(

Roshelle: Rimmel London's moisture renew lipstick in 700 Nude Delight. I hate how it actuates the cracks on my lips and is not moisturising at all! I bought that one when I first started out with makeup and haven't used it since because it doesn't look flattering at all!

7. What is your favourite lipstick at the moment?

Alyssa: My favourite lipstick at the moment is the Revlon Colourburst Lipbutter in Peach Parfait. I find this very flattering on my skin tone. This lipstick is super moisturizing, very natural and doesn't accentuate the fine lines on my lips. It`s the perfect everyday kind of lipstick!

Roshelle: Again, I have to go with MAC's Syrup. It just looks soo flattering!

8. Can you show us a lipstick you love?

Alyssa: I truthfully love all of my lipsticks, especially my MAC ones. I am currently going through a
MAC lipstick faze and Milan Mode is a lipstick I`m in love with at the moment.

Roshelle: I really like MAC's See Sheer. It's so pretty for the Spring/Summer months!

9. What is your most expensive and inexpensive lipstick in your collection?

Alyssa: My most expensive lipstick is MAC's Huggable Lipcolour in Out For Passion. It was $24 and the least expensive lipstick I have is a Rimmel London Kate Lipstick which I got for $6.

Roshelle: Most expensive: MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Impressive and the least expensive is the Rimmel London Kate lipstick I got for around $6-7.

10. Do you like, love or addicted to lipsticks?

Alyssa: I love lipsticks and sometimes I go a little overboard and start obsessing over them. I reach for lipsticks the most and my life wouldn't be the same without them!

Roshelle: I like lipsticks. I can live without them but they really do add colour onto your face!

11. Show us a lipstick that reminds you of someone special!

Alyssa: Roshelle and I  are so alike that both of our answers are the same. The lipstick that reminds me of someone special is my mom<3 It's MAC's Lustre Lipstick in Milan Mode. My mom bought this lipstick for me and it's her favourite lipstick out of my whole collection. So, I like to use it all the time because of this.

Roshelle: I choose MAC's sweetie. It reminds me of my mom because she loves this colour and actually choose it out for me!

So that's it guys! What are your favourite and least favourite lip products? We TAG you to do this tag if you haven't already!

love r&a x

Outfit of the Day I The Makeup Diaries

Hey guys!! It's Alyssa here today. I hope you're all having a wonderful day so far. Today I'm going to do an "Outfit of the Day" I'm very interested in not only beauty but fashion too. I shop very often and I thought it would be a good idea to do since Roshelle and I haven't done one of these yet. Much like makeup, I hold a passion for fashion. To me, fashion is a way I can express myself and let my personality show through. The outfit I will be wearing today is very casual and comfy yet cute. You can dress it up or dress it down. Also this look is very versatile and can easily be re-created.  I would wear this look when I'm going out to the mall or hanging out with friends. Now enough of the chit chat lets get started. I hope you enjoy it and I can't wait do more of these:)

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation & Beauty Blender First Impression & Review! | TheMakeupDiaries

Hey guys! So as you saw in our mini Sephora & MAC Haul earlier this week, I (Roshelle) got the NARS Sheer Glow foundation and the original beauty blender at Sephora and I really wanted to get a review up for you guys on these two products. So let's start off with the NARS Sheer Glow foundation. I got mine in the shade Barcelona. The line's shade range is pretty good with 17 different colour options. NARS claims that it is a glowing, natural radiant foundation with sheer and buildable coverage that immaculately evens skin tone. I definitely contemplated between getting this or Makeup Forever's HD Foundation but decided to get this because my skin was feeling drier than usual and I heard that NARS' Sheer Glow would moisturize as it was a more liquidy foundation, so to say, more than the Makeup Forever one. I have some dry patches on the side of my nose and on my forehead and this DID NOT accentuate them! Brilliant! It was pretty cool cause most foundations tend to do that to my skin and it begins to be super noticable that I slobbed some foundation on but with this NO! It's perfect. It's like it went on perfectly through the dry patches and put a layer on top of the patch without making it look cakey. Let me tell you unless you didn't know that I really do like this foundation! Did I just find my HG foundation??? I've really only used drugstore foundations (Maybelline/Revlon) ever since I started using makeup but this is such a winner! I really didn't know what to expect from this because I never owned such a high end foundation. The coverage is sheer-medium coverage and is definitely buildable, like NARS claims it is. However this did hurt the wallet, as it was $55 CAD. I wore it the entire day today and it felt super smooth on my skin leaving me with a flawless, smooth and even complexion even without a primer. Some people worry about this looking too glowy and in my opinion, it doesn't do that! It definitely gives a subtle glow while still looking natural and lit from within and still looking natural. So glad I decided to purchase it and I know I will continue to love it especially during these Winter Months!

I did it. yes, I watched numerous Youtube videos and all I could see people applying their foundation with was this bright pink sponge. Yes the beauty blender! This little bad boy was always on my watch and whenever I went to Sephora and I'd look at it and I could not justify a $26 sponge. I really couldn't. Now, when Alyssa and I were on our mini shopping trip, I looked at it again. I really wanted to see what all the hype was about over this small, unique sponge. Let me tell you, I am so glad I did! Even though this was a really expensive sponge.. it is SO worth it. I'm never applying foundation or concealer with a brush again (Did I really just say that?!) This gives me flawless coverage when I use this sponge with the NARS Sheer glow. It really does make the makeup I use set perfectly onto my skin! And the sponge is beautiful.

In conclusion, I really do like these two products and I'm super happy I got them. Even though they are pricey (like everything else in Canada lol) they will not disappoint! The foundation really gives me the flawless look, while still looking natural look. It gives such a healthy glow and it makes you look radiant! And the beauty blender is just so amazing. All those times passing by it wondering if it was worth it is over because now I know how amazing it is. It applies all liquid face products like foundation and concealer seamlessly. Definitely check out these 2 products the next time your at sephora!
