Our Makeup Story TAG! | TheMakeupDiaries

Hi guys! So recently Judy from itsjudytime did a tag on her Youtube Channel called the Makeup Story Tag and we thought it was a good way to show you guys our "makeup story" through this fun little tag! We encourage everyone to do this tag but we're going to tag some specific people to do it :)

THE QUESTIONS
1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
2. How did you get into makeup?
3. What are some of your favorite brands?
4. What does makeup mean to you?
5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?
6. What is your favorite thing about makeup?
7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs. high end makeup?
8. What is one tip of advice you can give a beginner?
9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?
10. What do you think about the beauty community on Youtube?

1. Roshelle: I wore makeup only on occasions when I was young (although I didn't know how to apply it or anything!) but I started experimenting with makeup myself when I was 13.

Alyssa: Ever since I was a little girl I have always been intrigued by makeup. My mom would sometimes let me use her lipstick or apply some eyeshadow on me when I was younger but I didn't start wearing makeup till I was 13/14. I did wear maybe some eyeshadow or mascara a few times for special occasions before that but, when I was 14 that's when I really started experimenting!

2. Roshelle: I don't remember exactly how I got into makeup but I loved wearing lip gloss (I thought it made me look like the prettiest girl alive!) All I remember was seeing older people wear it, and people on tv wearing it. I always thought wearing makeup meant caking your face, but when I saw that makeup could make me look enhanced whilst still looking natural, I fell in love with it!

Alyssa: I am super close to my family. I'm always with them and since I have a bunch of girl cousins that are older than me, I would always watch them apply their makeup. I love watching them do their makeup even to this day, so I definitely got into makeup because of them. It's so fascinating! A ton of my friends also played a part in me getting into makeup!

3. Roshelle: Some of my favourite brands include Nars, L'oreal, Maybelline, Too faced, and Mac.

Alyssa: MAC, Benefit, Tarte, Urban Decay, Maybelline, Revlon and Loreal are a bunch of my favourite brands!

4. Roshelle: I don't understand why people hate when girls wear makeup! If it makes you beautiful, you have every right to do what makes you happy! It's all about feeling comfortable in your own skin, and enhancing your already beautiful features. Makeup is an art, and every single person that wears makeup has their own way of personalizing it!

Alyssa: Makeup means a lot to me and is one of the most important things in my life! Despite how other girls feel about it and would criticize me for saying that, it is something I can't live without. There's just so much to love about it and honestly my love for makeup increases everyday. It makes me feel happy and confident and it's a way for me to express myself.

5.  Roshelle: I would wear foundation, bronzer, blush and highlighter!

Alyssa: If I could only wear 4 products they would have to be concealer, powder, mascara and eyebrow powder!

6. Roshelle: My favourite thing about makeup is how personal it is, and that there are unlimited looks that can be created. Makeup is all about individuality and self expression and it's a lot of fun to recreate looks and also create your own.

Alyssa: My answer is very similar to Roshelle's! My favourite part about makeup is how you can express yourself in so many different and fun ways! It gives you a chance to be creative and original.

7. Roshelle: There are some great and not so great products on both ends of the spectrum.. however, as beauty bloggers, we are here to help save time & money as we try out products for you so you have a trusted opinion on whether you should splurge and try out a high end product or save some money on go for the drugstore alternative.

Alyssa: It's not really a big deal to me whether a product is drugstore or high end. The important thing is that I really enjoy it! I like the option of both drugstore and high end makeup. I like buying drugstore makeup if I'm on a budget and I like buying high end products to treat myself. Having both makes buying makeup so much easier... you definitely get some variety. But truthfully, I find myself wanting/buying more high end products than drugstore.

8. Roshelle: There are many things I wish I knew when I first started out.. but my number one tip is to do whatever makes you feel beautiful and comfortable! Watch some youtubers, read some blogs on how to do certain things, and remember makeup- like everything new you learn, takes time! And don't fret is your makeup doesn't look exactly like you want it to.. personalize it to the way you would like it!

Alyssa: To all you beginners out there don't be afraid to be yourself and take risks when doing your makeup. It's one of the best ways to express yourself and just keep practicing. Just like Roshelle said, watch videos and read blogs!!

9. Roshelle: I never really understood the whole coloured lip trend.. like blues, oranges, yellows?! It seems super out there, and super bold.. but never would I ever! And also heavy baby doll pink blush... what...?

Alyssa: I totally agree with Roshelle on this one... I will never understand this! Also, I will never understand ombre lips using those colours.

10. Roshelle: I think that the beauty community on Youtube is really cool! So many girls just trying out different products and stylizing it to fit their personality and putting an individual twist on it is what makes it never get old. All the girls seem super down to earth and they do know what they're talking about!

Alyssa: I think the beauty community on Youtube is so wondeful. I admire all those beauty gurus and watch their videos all the time. They make me feel like I want to be a part of the Youtube beauty community! Someday maybe Roshelle and I might start making Youtube videos for you guys haha

We tag anyone who wants to do this to do it, however we're tagging a few of our friends here on blogger to give this a shot!

Manicure Monday | TheMakeupDiaries

Step 1: Remove any polish or dirt on your nails using a nail polish remover. I used the Sally Hansen Maximum Strength Polish Remover along with a cotton ball.

Step 2: Cut and file your nails to get them prepped and ready for some polish! I used my nail files from Icing and a large nail clipper to cut my nails which I find is a lot easier than using a small nail clipper.

Step 3: Apply a base coat to ensure the longevity of your manicure. Applying a base coat also prevents staining and protects your nails and well as makes them stronger. I used OPI's Natural Nail Base Coat.

Step 4: Apply 2 coats of polish onto your nails. I used this gorgeous vibrant magenta colour by OPI which is called Dim Sum Plum.

Step 5: To add some shine to your nails, seal the polish and help the lasting power of the manicure, apply a top coat. I used OPI's Top Coat.

Step 6: Last but not least, I used OPI's Drip Dry to help my nails dry faster. As you can tell I am a huge fan of OPI products haha

How stunning is this colour??? So beautiful!

DIY Healthy Summer Popsicles | TheMakeupDiaries

Hi guys! Today I will be showing you how to make these scrumptious, healthy and fresh summer popsicles. It's super easy to create and they taste delicious! You only need a few items and you can change up the ingredients depending on how you're feeling. Let's get started.. hope you all get the chance to try these out:) Watch out for more summer diy food related blogposts!

What You Need:
  • Your choice of beverage (water, coconut water, juice) In this case, I used the O.N.E. Coconut Water which is super refreshing
  • An assortment of fruits. I used raspberries, blueberries and strawberries
  • Popsicle molds
  • Popsicle sticks (you can easily find these at a local craft store)
Step 1: Lay out all your ingredients onto a clean surface.

Step 2: Put your choice of fruits into the popsicle molds and add your chosen beverage.

Step 3: Once you've added the fruits and your chosen beverage into the popsicle molds, stick your popsicle sticks in the center of each mold.

Step 4: Lastly, put the popsicle mold into the freezer and leave it there until it hardens (time varies)

Step 5: Once your posicles are out of the freezer, pull them out of the molds and enjoy. This is super simple way to stay hydrated in the summer and also they are very healthy which is a plus!

My Blush Collection | TheMakeupDiaries

Today's post is going to be all about blushes. Who doesn't love blushes?! They are absolutely amazing. I've always been a huge fan of blush and I am fascinated with the different looks and effects you can create. The variety of colours are endless and there are many different finishes. Today, I will be sharing with you my blush collection. The blushes I own are a mixture of drugstore and high-end and I use them to help me achieve different looks. For example, some blushes in my collection have a shimmery finish. Blushes like this help draw more attention to your cheeks and provides a nice glow. If I remember correctly, I only own one full size matte blush.. the rest are in palettes. I use this blush when my eyes are very bold and when I want to keep things simple and defined. Most of the blushes I own fit into the pink category. I find myself attracted to these colours but, I want to explore the variety of blushes that exist and when purchasing my next blush I want something different... like a light peachy coral or a neutral blush. I have my eye on the Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Exposed. Down below I will share share my thoughts on each of the blushes as well as show you a swatch so you can get an idea of what the colour really looks like. Sporty Makeup Tutorial | TheMakeupDiaries

Hi guys it's alyssa! First off, I would just like to say I'm extremely sorry I haven't been posting as often as I would like. This week was extremely busy for me! To prevent me from lying around my house being lazy, I signed up for a volleyball camp that was 6-7 hours everyday for 5 days! Yesterday was the last day and now I can finally start posting a bunch of things! Since I took part in a sporting activity this week, I decided to do a makeup tutorial on a more "sporty" makeup look and include some essentials. Of course some people prefer not wearing any makeup at all when working out or playing sports but it's all personal preference and in my a opinion a little makeup is neccessary. You definitely want to keep things simple and your main focus should be to look more fresh and awake. Since I knew I was going to be sweating a lot I didn't use any face products. I DID NOT want to create more breakouts and if I couldn't prevent them why not?! Anyways, I will be sharing with you the makeup I wore to volleyball this past week as well as some alternatives and my essentials when playing sports!!

Step 1: Apply a moisturizer
It's important to apply moisturizer to your face every single day. These two are my absolute favourites. The Aveeno Fresh Essentials moisturizer smells super good and is very hydrating. It also contains SPF 30. I tend to use this when its warm and sunny out. For every other day I use my First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. Its fantastic if your skin is feeling dry.

Step 2: Apply a tinted moisturizer and powder
This step is optional. When playing volleyball I skipped this step but if you want to cover anything up these two products are amazing. The No. 7 Dual Action Tinted Moisturizer blurs imperfections, conceals blemishes, gets rid of redness and makes your skin look flawless all while protecting your skin from the sun. The Maybelline Fit Me Powder sets the tinted moisturizer, keeps your face looking shine free and adds a little extra coverage as well.

Step 3: Fill in your brows
I never leave the house without filling in my brows, I've said this a hundred times. Of course I filled mine in and it made the world of a difference. The Anastasia Beauty Express For Brows and Eyes is a must have for me. Make sure you have a spoole and an angled eyeliner/eyebrow brush.

Step 4: Curl your lashes and apply mascara
To make me look more awake and fresh I curled my lashes and applied mascara. My favourites at the moment are the Loreal Lash Out Butterfly Mascara and the Maybelline Pumped Up Colossal Mascara (waterproof version) Both of these mascaras have a great formula. They coat the lashes with the perfect amount of product and they are both not clumpy and separate the lashes really well.

Step 5: Apply lipbalm
To keep your lips moisturized, soft and hydrated, apply your favourite lipbalm.

Essential 1: Hand sanitizer
To keep your hands clean and germ free keeping a sanitizer with you is crucial. I love the ones from Bath and Body Works. They all smell delicious and come in varieties of scents, flavors and colours. The one that I keep in my bag is called Merry Berry Sparkler.

Essential 2: Deodorant
Obviously deodorant is a must.... need I say more? I only use the crystal clear gel ones from Secret and the scent I am using at the moment is called "refreshingly floral" The scent is super fresh and light.

Essential 3: Body Mist
I am a huge fan of body mists and sprays so I have one with me at all times. They are so pleasant and they obviously make you smell amazing. One I have been loving is by Victoria's Secret and it is in the scent "pure seduction" This particular scent smells like flowers and fruit... red plum and freesia to be exact and it is very popular.

Essential 4: A good sports bra
Obviously when working out and playing sports you need a good sports bra. I really like this one from Nike. It's black so it goes with everything else you wear, it's comfortable and the material feels great. Also, the style is very nice.

Essential 5: A good pair of running shoes
I know that when I'm out and about playing sports I need to be comfy. The Nike free runs are super comfortable runners that are great for working out and playing sports. They look fantastic too!! Plus they come in so many different colours!
